The Renaissance is one of the historical periods that have elicited vigorous debates among the historians and scholars. The term ââ¬Å"Renaissanceâ⬠for me, before taking this unit, is just a word that reminds me of some well-known historical events and famous Renaissance men, for example, Columbusââ¬â¢s voyage discovered the America, Dante wrote the famous masterpiece The Divine Comedy and Da Vinci ââ¬Ës the priceless work Mona Lisa. My understanding of the period consists merely of those single people and events that seem unrelated. I hear the term frequently when it comes to the history of European civilization that I barely have any knowledge of. There are many misconceptions for people like me who has a general idea on the period but don t know much detail about it. By taking this unit, some of my misconceptions have been corrected, and I get to see the whole picture of the Renaissanceââ¬âwe studied the cause of the revolution during the Middle Age and how the p rocesses going of people exploring the world as well as themselves. The Renaissance is commonly believed as a rebirth of culture during the period of 14th to 17th century and also considered as a bridge connecting the medieval and contemporary history. It is true to some extent, but not accurate. Renaissance is not only a revival of classical arts or the literature but also a significant change in the structure of the society and a reunion western world.
